An initial autopsy on the body of Pol Col thitisan “Joe Ferrari” Uthanaphon indicated that the probable cause of death was suicide by hanging, according to the Central Institute of Criminal Science (CIFS).

Dr. Warawee Wayawuth, Deputy Director of CIFS under the Ministry of Justice, told a briefing on Sunday

Asked if other wounds were found on the corpse, he said there were bruises on the back and hip, but they come from old wounds.

However, other laboratory tests are required on tissue tests to confirm this, he said.

As for the blood pillars found by Thitisan’s relatives on the floor of his cell in the central prison, when they came to see the corpse, Dr. Worawee said that medical officials believed that blood could have come out of the body after his death.

He said that leakage of blood from body holes is normal after death.

“Initially, I gave weight of suicide by hanging as a possible cause of death.

“The marking around the neck matches the size of a small towel that is believed to have been used to commit the act,” said Dr. Worawee.

However, Weerasak Nakhin, Thitisan’s lawyer, said Thitisan’s relaces will send the body for another post-mortem exam at Cholangkorn University for the second opinion.

POL MAI GEN JESSADA USA, the commander of Division 2 of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said that the police have continued to examine the evidence gathered at the place of death, including the CCTV filming.

Thitisan, a police officer convicted of torture and killing a drug suspect in 2021, was found in his cell at the Klong Remean prison in Bangkok on Friday night.

On Saturday, the correction department issued a statement confirming that prison officials were notified of Thitisan’s death on Friday, around 8:30 pm.

He was found fallen on the cell door with “frightened and pulse fingers”, the statement shows. A towel around his neck was tied to the cell door.

Thitisan was sentenced to life imprisonment and served three years and six months in area 5 of the prison.

However, his relatives do not think he has taken his own life, supporting a previous attack by a prison official while he was in detention.

On February 26, his mother filed a complaint requesting an investigation after Thitisan was quarreling and attacked by a guard because he reported a detainee to violate the rules, following pornography on a mobile phone.
