King Charles III Coronation medals presented in Prince George

On behalf of the king, parliamentarian Todd Doherty recognizes locals who gave back to community and country

Deputy Todd Doherty presented the formal recognition from King Charles III to people from Prince George who did a good job for their community and for the country on Sunday, March 9th.

The ceremony took place in the court by the Marriott Hotel. Similar presentations took place in Canada, Canada,

King Charles III The coronation medal commemorates the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada.

Administered by the Hall Hall Chancellery, the medal honors those who have made significant contributions to Canada or have obtained great achievements that bring credit to the country.

A full list of local recipients has not been available immediately.

Here is a closer look at the medal, offered by the Government of Canada:

Eligibility and criteria
To be eligible, candidates must meet the following national criteria:

  • They made a significant contribution to Canada or a certain province, territory, region or community or have obtained a remarkable achievement abroad that reflect on Canada.
  • Be alive on May 6, 2024. The prize can be presented posthumously, provided the individual is alive at this time.

In total, 30,000 medals will be granted in the anniversary year, 4,000 dedicated to members of the Canadian armed forces (CAF).

Military selection criteria
The process of military selection is based on merit and aims to represent both the usual and reserve forces, including Cadet and Rangers Canadian instructors. The emphasis is placed on the lower rank members, who are essential for the operational success of the CAF, as the force is rebuilt.

Most medals will be awarded to non-composed members (NCMS) up to the rank of small officer/mandate officer and officers up to the rank of lieutenant -andant/major.

A smaller number of medals will go to the senior rows, including the chief officer of the second class officer/Master Ward, chief officer of class I/head of mandate and commander/lieutenant-colonel. The Directorate of Honor and Recognition (DH & R) is responsible for administering military allocation.

Recognition of public service
The employees of the Public Service in departments and federal agents, including the National Defense Department (DND), will also receive medals. The nominations will follow the criteria presented above and will reflect the diversity of each department.

The team of corporate and recognition prizes at ADM (HR-CIV) will administer medal allocations within the DND. More details about the selection criteria and lines for the DND employees can be found on the defense information network (DIN) in accordance with CanFilden 063/24.

Design
The medal is a 32 mm circular piece, silver, with:

  • aversion: A crowned and robbed effigy of His Majesty King Charles III that he faces, surrounded by inscriptions Charles III Dei Gratia Rex and CANADA.
  • Verso: An frozen background of 13 triangular forms that evoke the feasts, symbolizing the provinces and territories of Canada. Royal Cypher in Canada appears in the center, with the date of coronation (6.V.2023) on the left and Vivat rex (“Long lives the king”) on the right.

A 12 mm ring passes through a small empty ball at the top of the medal, supporting the ribbon.

Ribbon
The ribbon, with a width of 32 mm, consists of:

  • A 5 mm red stripe in the center
  • White stripes (2 mm on each side of the red striped)
  • Dark blue stripes (9.5 mm on each side of white stripes)
  • Red edge stripes (2 mm)

The design is identical to the British ribbon of the coronation medal, which was inspired by the ribbon of the coronation medal of King Edward VII of 1902.

Bars
There is no bar for this medal.

wearing
The medal must be worn on the left breast, suspended from the ribbon, according to the Canadian Directive, decorations and medals. It will be positioned according to the Queen’s diamond jubilee medal and before the long -term service of the GRC and the good behavior medal.
