Around 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, Mid and West West Fire and Rescue crews (Mwwfr) and Shropshire Fire and Rescue were called to reports about a barn fire.

Firefighters from Llanfyllin, Welshpool, Llanfair Caereinion and Oswestry The fire stations rushed to the scene at Pen-Y-Bont in Oswestry.

A spokesman for Mwwfr said the whole barn, measuring about 20 meters over 12 meters, was lit.

“The crews used two hose drum jets, three main jets, a ground monitor, a thermal imaging camera and three light portable pumps to extract water from a nearby river to extinguish the fire.

“The bar, containing about 60 tons of hay and straw, was completely destroyed by the fire. It is believed to have been accidentally on.”

The scene continued to be monitored for several hours until the final crews left at 9.39 morning on Sunday, March 9th.
