Owen backus homicide process starts Monday

Green Bay, wis. (Wbay) – The trial for a man accused of killing a man Green Bay in December 2023 is about to start.

Owen Backus pleaded innocently by the first -degree homicide in Michael Hubbard’s death.

The criminal complaint says Backus initially claimed that Hubbard had entered his house and attacked him and beat him on a unconscious hubbard with a beer and tied him.

Backus then said he was showering when Hubbard entered and attacked him with a key. Again, Backus said he didn’t want to hurt Hubbard, but his attacker was “tireless.”

The complaint continues to say that his story changed again in the phone calls registered in prison, with Backus saying he came home and found Hubbard in his house, redeeming things, so he could paint. Backus said he did not approve, but went to take a shower and hubbard attacked him. The prisoner calls made it clear that Hubbard and Backus knew themselves. Backus said it was self -defense.

The police found on the hubbard face down with two cables wrapped around the neck and a shirt wrapped around the face. Backus insists that Hubbard was alive and had a pulse when he left.

The first day of Backus’s one -week process is scheduled to start at 8:30 in the morning at the Brown County Court.
