EKURHULENI BUS BUSH CRASH TOLL climbs up to 16

Germiston – a bus was overturned in Ekurhuleni Tuesday, killing at least 16 people, with dozens of injured.

The bus was transporting more than 50 people to work when it collapsed on a crowded road near Johannesburg or Tambo, officials said.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said the accident “has claimed 16 lives so far”. 12 died on the spot and four more in the hospital.

The cause of the accident, which forced the closing of the highway to the airport, was not known immediately. The images in the scene showed the bus on his side.

Preliminary research has shown that the vehicle was thrown, rolled and landed in the direction from which it came, said RTMC spokesman Simon Zwane.

“We are lost for words. This is a disaster,” said the transport official of Ekurhuteni, Andile Mngwevu.

A survivor of the accident told the media -the bus seemed to be at speed.

Despite sophisticated road networks, South Africa struggles with a high rate of road deaths are largely blamed on speed, unadorized driving, unwanted vehicles and non -observance of seat belts.

Four schoolchildren were killed on Monday and five other injured when two vehicles collided around Ekurhuleni, who are east of Johannesburg.
