Closed taxi driver for sexual aggression of the 18-year-old passenger Irish Times

A taxi driver who sexually assaulted a teenage passenger after speaking in a gross way has been closed for two years.

Badruzzan Massum (47 years old), from Forest Mews, Swords, Dublin, was guilty at the Criminal Court of Dublin for the sexual aggression of the 18 -year -old, on November 27, 2024.

The father of the four has no previous convictions.

Guard Ciara Ryan told Barrister Marc Murphy, a criminal prosecution, that the victim ordered the taxi to use an application to pick it up in a suburb of Dublin, around 2.30.

Once in the taxi, Masum reached the thigh several times and began to make gross comments about sexual activity. The teenager became obvious that Masum did not travel in the right direction, so she was offered to use a map application on her phone. He then suggested that he should stand in front of the vehicle with him so he could see his phone.

GDA Ryan said that the driver eventually gave up on her, but he hugged her and tightened his breast as he left the taxi.

She made a complaint to Gardaí, and Massum was identified through the CCTV records and the application of the application that the adolescent had used.

He was arrested and interviewed, but did not admit. An impact statement on the victim was prepared for the case and was taught in court, but was not read.

The Defense lawyer said that Masum has not worked as a taxi driver since he entered his plea in November last year. He said that his client accepts that it is a significant violation of trust, and the teenager was entitled to a quiet journey, but “this did not happen in this case.”

Judge Patricia Ryan said that the most aggravating characteristic of this case was the “very serious violation of trust” and the early age of the victim.

She acknowledged that Masum did not draw attention to the guard since then and he expressed remorse for his actions.

Judge Ryan closed him for two years and said he would be placed in the sex offender register.
