Multi-vehicle crash shuts down a portion of Winnipeg’s South Perimeter Freeway

The Winnipeg South Perimeter Freeway is currently closed in all directions on St. Mary’s Road due to a multi-vehicle crash, police said.

Emergency crews are at the scene, although there do not appear to be any serious injuries, a police spokesman said, noting that up to eight vehicles were involved.

The first crash was first reported after 7pm and was followed by a series of slower impacts due to “skating-like roads”, the spokesman said.

Drivers slow down for new roundabout in the area but slipping due to icy conditions. A rainy Monday combined with sub-freezing temperatures overnight left much of the city covered in a layer of frost Tuesday morning.

Several tow trucks are on the scene, which will cause significant traffic noise, police said.
