Canada returns from a 25% electricity surcharge after Trump’s reprisals

The Prime Minister in Ontario said he would take over the electricity rate on three US states he announced earlier.

Ontario took a step back after the US President Donald Trump was climbing the tariff war, climbing the steel and aluminum tariffs by 50 %. “In response, Ontario has agreed to suspend its 25 % surcharge for electricity exports to Michigan, New York and Minnesota,” Ford said.
A few hours earlier, Ford blamed Trump for this unprecedented war and apologized to the Americans, because he said he would not return.

New tariff war between US-Canada

Trump has posted on Truth Social on Tuesday, earlier that steel and aluminum tariffs will move from 25 % to 50 % starting on Wednesdays in reprisals at the electricity surcharge in Ontario. Trump asked why US states should depend on Canada for electricity and said that it will declare a national emergency for the three Ontario states targeted with stopping electricity.
