Toronto police release pictures with helicopter from carjacking arrests

The Toronto Police Service (TPS) shared images with the helicopter from the arrests of three young people accused in a supposedly armed carjacking last weekend at North York.

The officers were called to Victoria Park Avenue and Sheppard Aesta Area around 8:30 pm on March 8, for the reports of a robbery.

It is assumed that the victim was placed in their SUV when a man -man suspect entered the back chair, produced a knife, held it against the victim’s neck and asked for the keys.

The police said the victim had handed over the car’s keys, and the suspect then fled from the scene, leaving the victim’s vehicle. The officers quickly located the stolen vehicle and noticed several suspects that enter beforehand.

With the help of the York Regional Air Police (AIR2), the authorities followed the stolen vehicle until it stopped in Scarborough, near Neilson Road and Ellesmere Road.

The helicopter shootings show officers trying to block the stolen vehicle before suspects driving over a snow bench and hit two police cruises before stopping.

“Air2, now I take the takeover,” says an officer in the video. “I watched a tracking of the foot here, to the south, through the residential area.”

The officers managed to take three suspects in arrest after a brief fight and a short foot pursuit.

Three male young people, two 16 -year -olds and one 17 -year -old, are facing various offenses, including an offensive weapon, holding properties obtained through crime and flight while being pursued by a police officer.

The accused was scheduled to appear in court on March 9th. Were not identified by the Law on criminal justice for youth (YCJA).

“I want to congratulate our members because they have made another exceptional carjacking arrest, strengthening our commitment to approach this problem in progress and keep our city safe,” said TPS, Myron Demkiw, in a press release.

“I also extend my gratitude to the York Regional Air Police Air Assistance Unit for their partnership, because their helicopter has played a crucial role in these arrests. This is an example of how vital police helicopters are in safe management of vehicle activities, reducing the risks for officers, public and everyone involved. “
