Chronic renal disease (CKD) is a progressive condition. In this condition, the kidneys tend to slowly lose their ability to filter waste, excess liquids and blood toxins. We need to understand that any decrease in kidney functions can lead to several serious complications.

When I spoke with Dr. Bharat Shah, the director of renal science, at Gleneagles Parel Hospital, he said that CKD is also called a silent disease. It is due to the fact that it is gradually developing and the symptoms may not be visible until serious kidney lesions have occurred. Individuals can experience many symptoms associated with this condition. This may include symptoms such as persistent fatigue, swelling of the legs and face, changes in urination models, high blood pressure and concentration difficulties. Various factors, such as weak eating habits, sedentary lifestyle, high sodium intake, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes can completely contribute to this condition.

Tips to prevent chronic kidney diseases

Stay hydrated: Dehydration may not be good for the kidneys. Drink enough water can help the kidneys to throw the harmful toxins more efficiently. Individuals are advised to be enough water throughout the day to ensure that their kidneys are working well.

Control the blood sugar level: Those with a high level of blood sugar, especially diabetes should be cautious and try to keep them under control. This is because diabetes is one of the main causes of kidney disease. This can be achieved by consuming a healthy diet, frequently monitoring blood sugar and taking drugs on time.

Give up smoking and alcohol: If you are someone who actively drinks or smoke then you should leave this habit immediately. Smoking can reduce blood flow to the kidneys, which can prevent its function. Whereas, alcohol may increase the risk of high blood pressure and dehydration. Summing and drinking can protect your kidneys.

Regularly monitored kidney health: If you are someone who has diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney disease, then it becomes crucial to check you regularly. People are advised to go to regular health and urine tests to detect the early Signs of the CKD before worsening.
