Everett’s speech was encountered with strong applause and a song of “standing with you”.

President Portsmouth Naacp, James Boyd, also spoke at the rally, supporting threats and slugs that were directed to the Everett family.

“The Everett family has experienced racial slips, have experienced death threats and we believe unequivocally that those things are unacceptable,” Boyd said.

The activist of the local community Germain Green has requested the community unit in support of the adolescent.

“He disturbed me in my heart to see how the whole world was pulling on this young lady, pulling the character based on what they thought they saw. I just wanted to get up, talk to a unit and announce to this young woman that the city of Portsmouth has it back.”
