A protester who confessed in the investigation into Rex Masai’s death told a scary moment of the Z gen of last year against the financial law.

Mekatilili Mweru, a poultry farmer, told the investigation that on June 24, 2024, while the police crashed on the protesters of Nairobi’s CBD, her friend Laban Njoroge emphasized a young man in a blood basin.

At that moment, she said he heard one of the officers saying, “Muwacheni Akufie Hapo” – he put him to die there.

Although he did not see the officer who spoke the words, she described the scene as chaotic, the police using the force to disperse the protest.

“They beat us simultaneously … I was injured on the right hand. Apart from my head, they hit us everywhere, ”she confessed.

According to Mweru, the protests remained peaceful for most of the day until around 5:00 pm, when the police moved aggressively.

As the protesters spread, she and Laban were on the soft boulevard, surrounded by officers armed with long weapons and sticks.

“There were tear gas all day, and sometimes the sounds made us wonder if this was only tear or something more,” she said.

As they tried to escape, Laban triggered. She stopped to help her, but they were quickly overwhelmed. –

We were afraid to run because we thought they would shoot us from behind. We decided to stay and protect ourselves ”, and she remembered.

Then he noticed that Laban noticed that the young bleeding and heard the scary observation of the officer.

The witness stressed that the protesters have no leaders – only posters and a common cause.

The investigation into Rex Masai’s tragic death continues, with several testimonies expected to shed light on what went on that day.
