The person dies at almost 1 month after the large house fire on Courtney Avenue

Norfolk, Va. One of the three people who were injured in a fire of the house on Courtney Avenue last month died Monday morning, according to Norfolk Fire Rescue.

Around 8:30 am Friday, February 21, the crews responded to a residential building in block 1200 in Courtney Avenue. The crews say that there was a large fire on the second floor of a two -storey house. This fire then spread to the attic of a adjacent house.

The crews saved a victim from the roof of the front porch and another inside the second floor. A victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The other victim and firefighter were taken to the hospital with wounds, but officials say they are expected to be okay.

The victim with serious injuries died almost a month later, Monday, March 17, fire officials say. Officials did not share the victim’s age.

Fire Marshal office works to complete the investigation and notification of state firefighters.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue says that three people have been saved from separated fires in recent months. I remind residents to practice the following fire prevention tips:

“These incidents are a memory of the importance of having smoke detectors, to practice an emergency evacuation and other things you can do to protect you in case of fire.”
