QRCS offers a safe shelter for affected families in Yemen

QRCS has launched a project for the construction of 86 houses for families affected by disasters in Taiz, Yemen.

Doha, Qatar: The representation office of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Yemen has launched a project for the construction of 86 houses for families affected by disasters in Taiz, at a cost of USD 225,000 (QR821.502).

In order to encourage the relocated families to return to their native village, al-Afirah, Al-Sharajah ‘Uzlah, 27 BHK Saure, well designed and high quality houses will be offered.

During the inauguration ceremony, Fares Al-Maliki, the general director of the Jabal Habashi district, stressed the importance of such projects in the return of the internally relocated people (IDP) and the restoration of normal life.

“Today, we launch a housing project, funded by QRCS,” he said. “It is addressed to the most vulnerable families, including the victims of the war and the flash floods.

Mohamed Bajash, the head of the Community commissions, praised the project as helping those who were relocated in their homes seven years ago. “Many houses in the area have been destroyed due to confrontations and to this day, hundreds of families have failed to return because of this devastation.

During the project inspection, eng. Ahmed Hassan al-Sharaji, the head of the QRCS office in Yemen, said: “We pay special attention to IDPs, because they are the most affected group of conflicts and disasters.

Globally, there are about 60 million victims of asylum and travel due to conflicts and wars. QRCS intends to launch five shelter projects for the benefit of over 5,100 by IDP in Yemen, Niger, Sudan and Bangladesh, with a total cost of 9,137,000 QR.
