Two men guilty for 4.75 million pounds the golden toilet at the Blenheim Palace – The Irish News

Two men were found guilty for the theft of a 4.75 million pounds of gold at Blenheim Palace.

The golden toilet that works completely 18 carats, which had been installed as an art work at Oxfordshire Country House, where Sir Winston Churchill was born, was stolen in an attack at the early hours of September 14, 2019.

It was created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and was a star attraction in a exhibition when it was stolen.

It is believed that the distinguishing toilet has now been divided and eliminated, Oxford Crown Court said before.

Jurors at Oxford Crown Court found Michael Jones on Tuesday, 39 years old, guilty of burglary.

Jones, from Oxford, visited the palace twice before theft, but denied that these are recognition travelers.

He previously told the jurors that he “took advantage of” the “facilities” of the golden toilet, while at the country house the day before being taken.

Asked what it is, Jones said, “Splendid.”

The jurors were previously said that James Sheen, 40 years old, from Welingborough, Northamptonshire, has already been guilty of burglary.

He also pleaded guilty of conspiracy for the transfer of criminal properties and a transfer of criminal properties, at Oxford Crown Court in April 2024.

The court has previously heard that Jones worked as a roof and builder for Sheen in about 2018 and was actually Sheen’s “right man”, being reliable to arrange payments for the other employees of his friend.

Frederick Doe, 36, also known as Frederick Sines, Winkfield, Windsor, Berkshire, was found guilty of conspiracy to transfer criminal goods.

Doe helped one of the men who pleaded guilty to perform theft, James Sheen, to sell some of the gold in the following weeks, the court heard.

Bora Guccuk, 41, from Western London, was found guilty of the same accusation.

Jones was arrested on October 16, 2019, and the police analyzed his phone. It is assumed that he was looking for newspaper reports on the stolen toilet on September 20, the jurors were previously told.

Doe will be convicted on May 19th. Jones and Sheen will be convicted of a set time.

Shan Saunders, from the Criminal Prosecution Service of the Crown, said: “This was an auditory attack that was carefully planned and executed – but the responsible ones were not sufficiently attentive, leaving a trace of forensics, CCTV images and telephone data.

“It was a complex case to be prosecuted, which involved a national investigation with many lines of investigation to identify those who were subsequently accused of theft.

“While none of the gold has ever been recovered – no doubt it was broken down or melted and sold shortly after it was stolen – we are sure that this pursuit has played a role in disturbing a wider crime network and money laundering.”
