Gouverneur Murder-Siicide leaves dead old couple

Gouverneur a investigation revealed that a Sesid murder has claimed the life of an elderly couple at their Fox Farm Road residence, according to New York State Police.

Sheila M. Van Norton, 66, and Thomas H. Van Norton, 68, both from Gouverneur, were found dead inside their house, after the troops responded to a well -being at about 8:56 pm on March 26.

The autopsies made on March 27 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital by forensic pathologist Dr. Scott F. Lapoint established that Sheila Van Norton died due to a head injury, with a condemned death.

The death of Thomas Van Norton was determined to be from a self-inflicted weapon wound and led a suicide.

The state police have executed several search mandates and processed the scene to gather evidence following the discovery of the bodies.

The investigation involved the forensic investigation unit of band B with assistance from the District Prosecutor. Lawrence and the Sheriff’s Department of St. Lawrence.

Authorities said this was an isolated incident and that there is no continuous threat to the community.
