Morehouse parish school districts confirm the accident involving two school buses

Bastrop, at. (Knoe) – The Morehouse Parish School District confirmed that there was an accident on April 2 involving two school buses.

According to the superintendent Jesse Winston, Jr., he said that the students and staff involved were evaluated on the spot, and those with minor wounds were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

“There were so many red flags with this, and the protocol was not followed at all,” said April Kennedy, who has two children who were involved in the accident.

Both her children suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Kennedy said he heard there are over 20 children involved in the accident.

However, the school council officials could not comment on the number of injured students.

Kennedy said he considered that the school council is not really concerned about the welfare of the students.

“So much happens in this world to add additional trauma from other people,” Kennedy said.

In a statement sent to our news room, the superintendent Winston said: “The safety and welfare of our students are our main priorities and we work closely with the local authorities to evaluate the situation.”

“The parents and tutors of all the students have been notified. We coordinate with the law enforcement and emergency respondents to gather all the necessary information and we will continue to provide updates as more details will be available,” said the superintendent Winston.

Kennedy said it is important for all sides, including school and school council to be transparent to parents.

“A village is needed and, if it does not communicate with us and tell us what happened, we have no choice but to go with what our children say,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy offered the thoughts of all the students involved in the accident.

“My prayers are addressed to all students who have been involved. Mrs. Kennedy is really bad and I pray to recover well,” Kennedy said.

The accident is still under investigation, and the superintendent Winston said the counseling services were made available to the students who were affected.

We addressed ourselves at the office of the sheriff of the parish of Morehouse, at the General Morehouse Hospital and at the Bastrop Police Department, but we did not receive any comment.
