Car on fire on I-94; no one was hurt, state police say

PORTER COUNTY – A car caught fire westbound on Interstate 94 on the outskirts of Chesterton Friday afternoon, according to Indiana State Police.

No one was injured, police confirmed. The ISP said the machine is idle.

Firefighters extinguished the fire shortly before 3 p.m

The car was on the inside of the westbound lanes near mile marker 27 when it caught fire, police said. The cause of the fire is unknown.

As of 3 p.m., the inside lane is still closed, Indiana Department of Transportation traffic cameras show.
