JetBlue, Spirit Airlines suspend flights to Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (CMC) — Two airlines, JetBlue and Spirit, have suspended flights to Haiti amid a new surge in gang violence.

Both American airlines canceled flights to Port-au-Prince from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, although JetBlue maintained its direct flight from New York.

Neither airline has publicly stated why the flights were suspended.

According to a report issued earlier this week by the United Nations, more than 10,000 people have been displaced by attacks in the past week around the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area.
