Teenager dies after accidental shooting Monday afternoon in Baker

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — One person is dead after a shooting in Baker on Monday.

According to the Baker Police Department, around 1:15 p.m., officers were called to the 2200 block of South Magnolia Drive in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned that a 17-year-old male was mishandling a gun when it accidentally went off and shot himself.

Emergency medical services officials said the victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Police say the teenager was responsive when he left the scene.

Police later said the teenager died at the hospital from his injuries.

No other details have been released.
