29 October 1924: One hundred citizens at a meeting in Delavan they guaranteed the pavement of the gap leading from the present pavement to Prairie Rest Cemetery. The contractor, having just completed nine blocks of paving here, estimated that he could do the job of paving the five blocks at a saving of at least $1,500 because he has the equipment here. Paving has been the subject of controversy for some time, as a snag prevents the city or town from paying for it.

October 29, 1949: Clinton merchants donned blue jeans and colorful shirts to wear them the week before the Harvest Festival will be held on Monday, October 31, under the auspices of the retail interests committee of the Clinton Business and Professional Men’s Club. The festival opens with a free pancake supper starting at 3pm at the National Guard armory, a Halloween parade with best costume prizes at 7pm and dance music from 9pm until midnight at Clinton City Hall.
October 29, 1974: No break in three-day strike involving 2,900 General Telephone Co workers. from Illinois appears obvious. Spokesmen for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers said the union was awaiting new contract proposals from the company. GenTel officials indicated they are awaiting a counterproposal from the union, which rejected the company’s final proposals for two contracts last week.

October 29, 1999: A University of Illinois study requested by members of the Illinois Farm Bureau showed that net farm income since 1999 in the state could average just $24,988 before taxes. The amount was originally projected at $11,832 before Congress approved a record $8.7 billion financial assistance package.
