Web design, kindergarten teacher among the key post-secondary programs on Yamal – Business & Economy

The development and exploitation of oil and gas fields was the most popular direction in colleges of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region, according to the results of the current year’s admissions campaign. “Web design”, “Midwife” and “Nursery teacher” are also at the top of the list, the region’s Department of Education said in response to a request from TASS.

“The most popular professions and specialties are: ​​”Development and exploitation of oil and gas fields” – 5 applicants in one place, “Medical and preventive care”, “Web design”, “Information systems and programming”, “Maintenance and vehicle repair’, ‘Network and system administration’, ‘Medical care’, ‘Midwifery’ – 4 applications per seat. “Nursery teacher” – 3 applications per place”, stated the department.

As many as 7,158 applications were submitted to the seven colleges in the region and the Noyabrsk Oil and Gas Institute, a branch of the Tyumen Industrial University. In 2024, local educational institutions offered more budget places – 2,290 compared to 2,126 in 2023. Most applications were submitted to colleges in Novy Urengoy, Noyabrsk and Salekhard.

Among the applicants for budget places were 57 participants of the Special Military Operation and their children, where most of the applications wanted to study “Information systems and programming”, “Medical care”, “Tourism and hospitality”, “Mining development and exploitation of oil and gas,” the department added.

Starting with the current academic year, in accordance with the needs of the regional and municipal labor market, 12 new specialties and professions were introduced, including “Equipping and operation of gas and oil pipelines and gas storage facilities”, “Machine operator for metal processing”, “transport terminal operator”.

Regional vocational training programs

“The most popular regional vocational training programs that guarantee further employment are also in tourism and hospitality – 225 budget places compared to 125 in 2023 (where the competition was 5 applications per place; “Cook, pastry chef”, “Kitchen and confectionery”, “Beauty technologies” – 3 applications per site”, the department noted.

Graduates will be employed with partner enterprises, including Salekhard river port, Integri Company, hotels – Yuribey, Seven Larches, Rus, Discover Yamal tour operator, Yasaway, Polar Urals and others.

Conditions for minority indigenous peoples

In 2024, children from nomadic families continue to receive education certificates, initiated by the governor of the region Dmitry Artyukhov. “Thanks to this support, students who were missing half a point <…> they will still be able to study,” said the department representative, adding that in addition to tuition fees, the certificates guarantee accommodation, meals, clothing and a monthly stipend.

Children from nomadic families mainly chose the following specialties: “Welder”, “Assembly of control and measuring devices and automation”, “Car repair and maintenance”, “General construction work”, “Nurses”, “Teacher of nursery”.
