PGA Tour officials confirm devastating news, but promise: 'I'll be back'

Australian PGA Tour hopeful Jeffrey Guan has vowed to return to the elite level, despite confirming that he is unlikely to regain sight in his left eye.

Guan was hit in the face in a freak accident during a pro-am in New South Wales last month.

He was immediately flown to the hospital and spent two weeks in intensive care.

Guan, 20, broke his silence on October 30 with an emotional statement on his Instagram page, which you can read below.

He confirmed that doctors said it was unlikely he would regain sight in his left eye.

The news is particularly devastating considering that just a week before the incident, he had made his debut at the PGA Tour’s Procore Championship.

He also signed a contract with the sports agency Sportfive, which also represents the former no. 1 world Jon Rahm.

“Instant sound and pain rushed through my head, and I fell to the ground,” Guan wrote of what he remembered of the incident.

“The voices sounded pretty muffled, and the next thing I knew, I was in an ambulance being transported to the hospital with skin patches containing high doses of fentanyl.”

Guan said he went through the following days, barely sleeping or eating and in “excruciating pain”.

He added: “During my nights in hospital I almost drowned in thoughts about the injury and my future in the sport.

“Not only was I completely devastated by the news I had received, but the whole situation made me very depressed and somewhat angry.”

Guan said he felt his and others’ sacrifices to advance his career would be in vain.

He continued: “Why did this happen? How the hell am I supposed to recover, get back and be the same player I was, or even better?

“I had no idea. I was devastated and felt so lost.”

Despite the setback, he confirmed that he will continue to pursue his dream.

“I’ll be back,” he said.
