A Bath man faces assault charges after allegedly attacking a stranger in a grocery store over a “Trump 2024” hat, police said Friday. The altercation reportedly began when the man confronted the victim about their political attire, escalating into a violent exchange.

Police have identified the suspect as 60-year-old Robert Yott, who is accused of striking the victim multiple times in the mouth and head. The attack left the victim with broken teeth and a bleeding mouth, authorities said.

Yott was arrested and charged with felonious assault and criminal trespass. He is being held in the Steuben County Jail pending arraignment.
