License plate reader helps recover 57 grams of crack cocaine in Binghamton

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The Broome County Special Investigations Unit, Task Forced, used a license plate reader to recover crack cocaine from a vehicle in Binghamton on November 4th.

The Task Force said the license plate reader led to the arrest of 28-year-old Keanu Q. Downey. He faces three counts of drug-related charges.

The Task Force said it was alerted by the license plate reader that the vehicle was being used without the owner’s permission.

Investigators located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the area of ​​the Brandywine Highway and Route 17/81 on ramp.

Police found 57 grams of crack cocaine and approximately $3,350 in suspected drug proceeds. A digital scale was also recovered.

Downey was taken to the Binghamton Police Department for processing.
