The man in the 70s killed after being struck by car in Co Laois – The Irish Times

A pedestrian from the 70s died from a road traffic collision in Co Laois Sunday night.

The incident that involved a pedestrian and a car took place shortly before 23:00 on N80 at Crannagh, Stradbally, Co Laois.

The driver of the car, a woman at 30, was not injured.

The road is currently closed waiting for an examination by forensic collision investigators.

The man from the 1970s was pronounced dead shortly after the collision and was removed at the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.

A postmortem exam will take place in a timely manner, said a spokesman of the guard.

Gardaí now appeals to anyone who witnessed the fatal collision to introduce himself. They were urged to contact Portlaoise Garda station, Garda Confidential Line or Garda Station.

A number of 24 people were killed on the Irish roads by 2025, according to the latest Garda data. Of these, six were pedestrians.

The total figure is to follow the number of road deaths in 2024, with 36 people killed in the same period last year.
