According to judicial documents, in September 2022, Hughes knew knowingly a child under the age of 12 to get involved in a sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of visual representations of that conduct, in Sacramento. Hughes committed practical violations of the minor victim and took videos and pictures of that abuse. The abuse of Hughes to the child gave from at least 2017. In addition, Hughes used the Internet to convince other minor victims to send him images and videos that were depicted by engaging in an explicit sexual conduct. Hughes did this separately, putting a minor man himself. Hughes also distributed images of sexual abuse of children, often under the pretext of helping or learning its victims how to perform certain sexual acts. At the time of his arrest, Hughes had bulky materials of sexual abuse on children.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Internet unit against children in Sacramento Hi-Tech Crimes Force, which includes the Department of the Sacramento County Sheriff, as well as investigations on internal security. US assistant lawyer Shea J. Kenny is pursued.

Hughes is under arrest and is scheduled to be convicted by American district judge Daniel J. Calabretta on July 10, 2025. Hughes is facing a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison and a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a fine of 250,000 USD. However, the real sentence will be determined at the discretion of the court, after examining some applicable statutors and the federal conviction orientations, which take into account a number of variables.
