Davao City collects almost P10M in order fines

The Davao City (VRU) regulatory unit collected a total of P9.965,900 from the violations of the city’s anti-smoking ordinances, sobriety and liquor prohibitions last year.

Much of the collection came from the fines of those who violated the anti-smoking ordinance of the city worth P7.511,000.

In 2024, VRU performed 2,566 operations with 3,418 detention under the city’s anti-smoking ordinance.

In accordance with the ordinance for banning the liqueur, the unit performed 822 operations with 653 detention in 2024.

As part of the implementation of the city’s anti-smoking ordinance, VRU is carrying out daily operations around the city.

The head of the VRU, Hernando Las, during the Ispeak Media forum, on Thursday, said that he also performs operations in units from 1 in the morning to 8 in the morning to ensure that there are no violations of the Sobrieity and ban on the liqueur.

He added that most violators of the city ordinances were visitors from other cities and countries that “did not know the existence of these ordinances”.

In January 2025, VRU has already collected more than P1 million fines for anti-smoking violation, liquor prohibition and sobriety ordinances.

In 2024, VRU also performed seminars on police officers and executors. The unit also carried out training on the cessation of smoking and produced information, education and communication (IEC), such as smoking awareness and smoking awareness for public use.

Also, the unit associated with local schools to perform anti-smoking and coordinated awareness symposiums with the city’s health office with nicotine replacement therapy.

Barangays and private companies also received seminars on anti-smoking and liquor prohibition.

The government of Davao, through the VRU and other partner agencies, including the Davao Police Office (DCPO), continues to strengthen the implementation of anti-smoking, liquor prohibition and sobriety ordinances in the city.

Dabawenyos are again urged to comply with these ordinances.

The sanctions for smoking violation are P1,000 for the first crime, P2,000 for the second crime and P5.000 and prison, according to the discretion of the court, for the third crime.
