Far North News Short: Claz’n classic cars; SH1 rebuilding and assault attack

The works on the reconstruction of the 1st Highway in Awanui started with the drivers warned up to six weeks of disturbances.

The New Zealand Transport Agency, Waka Kotahi, said road users should plan before and expect delays, as contractors work to rebuild a 1st Highway in Awanui this Sunday. The works will take place between Awanui BP and 20 m south of the Gill/SH1 intersection overnight between 6:00 pm and 6:00, to minimize disturbance. Managing the STOP/GO traffic will be in force during the works, and a temporary speed limit of 30 km/h will remain in force 24 hours throughout. It is expected that the works will take about six weeks.

Guilt assault beach

A woman accused of a common attack on a member of the family group from a distant beach from the North was guilty for the accusation.

The woman was accused of assaulting a woman on a beach in the bay, on January 6, this year. She pleaded guilty for the accusation before Judge Michelle Howard-Sager, at Kaitāia District Court on Thursday. Judge Howard-Sager gave the woman the interim suppression of the name until the case is over.

Women’s lawyer Jonathan Natusch said that some of the facts around the case were challenged by his client. Judge Howard-Sager entered the guilty plea and withdrew the woman to reappear on court on July 7 for a hearing in the contes. A date of conviction will be set then.

The robbers looked

Police call on witnesses and observations of a white car, after four men armed with a hammer and an iron iron held a Northland store.

The incident happened in the distant city of North Kaikohe on Tuesday, around 11.20 pm. Police said the aggravated robbery involved the four men entering the store on Broadway, supposed to jump the counter and take objects, including cigarettes and cash.
