With 33 marijuana retail traders, Genesee County tied Kalamazoo County on the fourth place on the state -of -income share list.

Wayne (86), Oakland (50) and Washtenaw (45) counties had the largest business number.

Excise duty on Michigan recreational marijuana is 10%, and payments are made annually.

The sharing of tax revenues was designed to attract municipalities to participate in the state marijuana market.

Taxes are divided by 30% sent to local, county and tribal governments; 35% at the School Aid Fund for Education K-12; and 35% at the Michigan transport fund for repairing and maintaining bridges and roads.

Road and school funds each received almost $ 116 million from marijuana excise revenues in the latest fiscal year.

In addition to excise duties, marijuana buyers also pay a 6% sales fee in Michigan.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer also suggested a wholesale fee on marijuana products as a means of raising another $ 470 million to help finance road repairs in her budget.
