SC officials are preparing early for the hurricane season following Helene

Horry County, SC (WMBF) – Friday scored 100 days away from the beginning of the Hurricane season in Atlantic – and while this may seem long, South Carolina officials say it’s never too early for to make sure you are ready.

This early training comes after Hurricane Helene devastated the region.

“For the emergency management of Horry County, the preparation for the hurricane season begins the day after the end of the previous season,” said Thomas Bell, the spokesman for Horry County Emergency Management.

Bell said that the department has already updated the comprehensive plan and check -in with the partner agencies about the ways in which this future hurricane season can improve.

Bell added one of the department’s priorities this year is the public education.

Cleaning Colombia County from Hurricane Helene.

“Is it the most fun to think about mid -February? Not. But it is important for people to realize that the count is continued, ”he said. “We know that the hurricane season will be right here around the corner and it is not unusual to see a tropical depression from the beginning of the season, a tropical storm, so we want to be people again, again.”

For Rebecca Meador, the residence of Horry County, too much preparation is better than at all.

Hurricane Helene left the farmers devastated with thousands of dollars worth more ...

“You do it behind the mind,” Meador said. “Make sure you have water, you have a bag of insurance documents, food, pet food, if you need it and this kind. It was not as bad as I was afraid it would be, but, you know, it is always possible. “

Emergency management staff says it is essential to address every season of caution.

“Each season could be the season in which your coastal area is the one that takes this direct blow from a major hurricane. There is no reason to say that it will happen this season, but there is no reason to say that it will not happen this season, “said Bell.
