13 arrested for giving up SIM cards to cash offerers or gambling credits online

Eleven men and two women, between the ages of 17 and 33, were arrested for their assumption of involvement in the provision of SIM books fraudulently for monetary winnings.

Two other men and three women, between the ages of 20 and 30, attend investigations.

This followed an anti-scam application operation throughout the island, carried out by officers from the command of Anti-Sscam between 18 and 24 February, targeting erranal subscribers who registered postpaid SIM cards for scams.

Preliminary research revealed that the 13 arrested were offered either cash or online gambling credits in exchange for teaching between 10 and 30 SIM cards for criminal activities, such as scams.

Police investigations are ongoing against the 18 people.

The crime to know in the knowledge of a fraudulently registered SIM card to another person to facilitate an offense for any profit has a fine that does not exceed $ 10,000, imprisonment for a term that does not exceed three years or both.

Police said criminal unions are exploiting local SIM cards and Esims as an anonymous communication channel for illicit activities, such as scams, money without license and vice.
