85 -year -old man to be charged on offensive posts on Facebook about Islam

Singapore: An 85 -year -old man will be charged on Wednesday (February 26) for Facebook posts containing offensive observations on Islam, the police said on Tuesday.

On April 21, 2021, the man reposted screenshots of offensive posts on Facebook five years earlier. The police received reports on the posts of June 29 and 30, 2021.

“The man left Singapore in January 2022, when the police investigations were in progress and returned only to Singapore in October 2024,” the police said.

He will be accused of deliberately intends to hurt racial feelings. The crime has a term of imprisonment of up to three years, a fine or both.

The police said that “they have a serious vision of acts that can damage racial and religious harmony in Singapore.”

“Any person who observes or act in a way that can cause evil and hostility between the various breeds or religious groups in Singapore will be treated firmly,” they added.
