Israel penalizes Palestinian prisoners released by PA funds

JERUSALEM

The Israeli defense minister, Israel Katz, issued sanctions against the Palestinian prisoners and members of their family who received payments from the Palestinian Authority (PA).

Katz’s office said that the punishments apply to “citizens and residents of the State of Israel”, with reference to Arab-Israeli and Palestinians living in the occupied East Jerusalem.

After the order, the Israeli forces attacked the houses of several Palestinians released and confiscated properties and cash, according to the office.

There was no immediate comment from the Palestinian authority in Ramallah.

On February 10, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree that overturned a system of payments to prisoners, injured and killed by Israeli forces after years of pressure from Israel and the US.

Over 1,100 Palestinians were released from Israeli prisons in exchange for 25 Israeli captives and four bodies under an agreement to cease Gaza and to exchange prisoners.

Last week, Israel refused to release another 620 Palestinian prisoners under the fire termination agreement, citing what he called “degrading teaching ceremonies”.

The cessation agreement agreement entered into force last month, stopping the genocide war of Israel, who killed almost 48,350 people, largely women and children and left the enclave in ruins.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a case of genocide at the International Court of Justice for his war on the enclave.
