It was just confirmed that SpringBok’s supporter Steven Kitshoff made the decision to retire due to a serious neck injury, which left with him a small choice, but to close his boots.

Kitshoff, which missed the entire international season 2024 due to injuries, came under the knife after suffering a neck injury during a match of the Carling Currie Cup.

At the end of the day, the 33-year-old said he should be grateful that he did not suffer paralysis or, possibly, lost his life.

“I am very lucky to be able to go and breathe. I can count my blessings and count my blessings that I am still alive. Now it is about confiscation every day, adequate planning and work for new goals and a career, ”he said.

“I was given a second rescue line.”

Looking in the future, Kithoff also said he wants to stay involved in the match.

“I think the sport has offered me so much, I think it’s time to give a little back,” he said. “If it is the development or mentoring for youth or consulting or any form – I just want to remain involved as much as I can. It’s an amazing sport, I’m super passionate about it.

“I have acquired a lot of knowledge over the years and I would like to help the boys come and try to reach their maximum potential.”

SpringBok Stalwart obtained the last of his 83 caps in the final of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France (which South Africa won 12-11).

Kitshoff is the second most ceiling springbok, behind his tendai mtawarira and prides himself on the second number of starts in a row in front of SpringBok. He is also proud of a world -wing U20 Rugby U20 medal with Boks Junior in 2012.

Interestingly, both his attempts were marked in the tests against Italy, in 2017 in Padua, and in 2022 in Genoa.
