Inspectors to visit children’s mental health units in Scotland after cruelty claims

Inspectors will visit the three teenagers in Scotland, mental health in Scotland, following cruelty charges at a unit in Glasgow.

The young people treated at Skye House-O Psychiatric installation with 24 beds on the field of Stobhill Hospital told the BBC that they were forced and outdated by the staff who used an abusive language during their admission between 2017 and 2024.

A young woman said she was described as “disgusting” and forced to clean her own blood after self-dating.

In a statement to the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday, Todd todd told the ministers that the program was “shocking” and that the accounts are “awful and annoying.”

“What I found so disturbing was the cultured culture,” she said. “The behavior of a staff has decreased well below what we expect from health professionals. Or, in fact, the basic standards of decency and compassion.

“He showed a disregard of the rights of patients from a personnel working at the hospitalization unit at that time, with an improper, raw and stigmatizing language.

“Treatment decisions are difficult, but that can never be an excuse for the operational culture described.

“I want to talk directly with the young people present in the documentary.

“My message for them is that their testimonies will lead to changes for the better.”

The Minister for Social Care, Mental Welfare and Sport said that officials were in continuous contact with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGCC) and have been assured that the issues were addressed in accordance with their complaint procedure.

Currently, a review of the quality of care in Skye House is underway and is to be completed until March 14, while an external review is ordered.

Todd said he would meet NHSGGC executive director, as well as NHS Lothian and NHS Tayside, who operate the other two hospitalization units of the country.

While the minister believes that the situation from the unit has “improved significantly”, he added that he will request a direct reinsurance that the problems raised in the program were addressed and that the treatment has improved.

She added: “I will ask about governing arrangements to make sure this can never happen again.

“We asked the improvement of the NHS Scotland medical assistance and the Mental Assistance Commission to make a series of visits to all three hospitalization units for teenagers, plus the national unity of the child as soon as possible.

“The independent perspective is necessary, and the voices of children and young people will be central for these visits.”

Meghan Gallacher, Scottish Conservatory, Meghan Gallacher, accused the Scottish government of knowing about the problems in the “for years” installation, citing e -emicles sent by a constituent to ministers in 2023.

Gallacher said: “The Scottish government, did not find out about this through the BBC documentary, they have known for years.

“On June 23, 2023, my constituent contacted the Scottish government officials on behalf of his daughter, Harmony.

“On August 12, 2024, (they) contacted the Prime Minister, the Health Secretary Neil Gray and the Minister of Children and Youth Natalie Don-Innes.

“The subject by E -mail:” Urgent concerns regarding the care and treatment of our child. “

“On November 25, 2024, she contacted Minister Natalie Donnes again after being ignored by (Todd).

“I have no idea how the minister can stay here today and pretend to be shocked, because he knew about it for years.

“The minister says that, finally, he feels the need to make a statement about the abuse of young women endured while they were detained at Skye House – only two years late.”

Gallacher questioned why the correspondence from her constituent was not treated with “the greatest seriousness”.

By responding, Todd emphasized the size of some ministerial postal bags.

“The Scottish ministers, they will understand, they will receive a huge amount of correspondence daily,” Todd told Gallacher.

“When issues are raised about a medical professional, such as Skye House, the Scottish government would normally direct the correspondence to their health councils, because the care and delivery of patients are the legal responsibility of local medical service providers.”

Following public charges, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and apologized to patients who “did not receive the level of care they were waiting for” at the unit.

The health council noted that the challenges of the staff meant that the agency and banking personnel worked in the unit to respond to the request – despite the lack of experience with patients with complex needs.

They said that appropriate measures have been taken to address the level of personnel in the last 18 months.
