Inventories of health prevention and promotion of 2024

Inventories of health prevention and promotion of 2024

Last year, the health prevention and promotion team worked hard to create a safer, healthier and more efficient work environment. Through a series of interventions, they addressed the common challenges at work with thinking solutions. Below are four key interventions from 2024 and some photos of these improvements in the action.

1.
Height adjustable offices were installed at MGH and Maisonneuve call centers. The agents now have the option to position the office at the appropriate height of the elbow and to alternate between stay and sitting throughout their work day. The movement between the session and the feet can improve the comfort, promote a better posture and increase the energy level. This change has created a more flexible and more adapted workspace for all Call Center employees.

2. Installation of ramps and tables at the laundry at the General Hospital in Montreal and on the Glen place

Dirty lingerie bags from medical assistance and departments used to descend on the clothes and fall directly to the floor. Then, the accompanying laundry were forced to lift the heavy bags on the floor and place them on the carts, a pregnancy that became closer on the back, due to the large volume of bags handled daily. To address this, the ramps and meals were installed to lift the bags to a more appropriate height, lowering the risk of injury to the staff.

Due to the constraints of space and the difficulties of working height, a new adjustable work station in height in the oncological pharmacy at Cedars Cancer Center has been introduced. The manually adjustable workstation allows the personnel of the different heights to lift or lower the height of the workstation to adopt working positions throughout the day. The workstation also improves the organization, with additional shelves at an optimal working height and improved storage below the work surface. This redesign allows a greater number of technical assistants in the pharmacy to perform their tasks at a comfortable working height.

4. Update of the waste camera on the Glen site
An air crane with a drum elevator under the hook has been installed in the Chemical Waste Chamber of the Glen site to improve the old intensive method of manipulating hard liquid waste. Previously, the staff had to manually position a ramp, push a truck with a completely up drum and position it on the isolation palette and pull it back. The new system uses a car to make the raising heavy, placing the drum directly on the minimum effort. This update reduces physical tension and improves the safety of our transport personnel.

These are just a few examples of the many impact changes made by the health prevention and promotion team, emphasizing their commitment to encourage a healthier and safer environment for all MUHC employees.
