Libya destroys 2 tons of explosive war remains

Tripoli, February 25 (Xinhua)-Libyan forensics announced on Tuesday the destruction of two tons of explosive war remains in the Al-Hira area, south of the Capital Tripoli.

“The destruction process took place in the Al-Hira area, due to the availability of safety conditions to complete the process of eliminating this quantity,” the Criminal Police said in a statement.

“It is worth noting that this quantity has been recovered by the inspection and elimination team of explosives from different locations in Tripoli and around the last year,” the statement added.

Last month, the Libyan Criminal Police destroyed two tons of explosive war residues in the city of Misurata, about 200 km east of Tripoli.

According to Fatma Zourrig, the head of the Mines Action section of the UN support mission in Libya, over 444 million square meters are still contaminated with me and war remains throughout Libya.
