The driver of forklift accused of fatal accident rejected for the program at the Veterans Court Local news

The driver of a heavy stacker involved in a fatal accident last year-now he is experiencing a crime murder charge has been considered ineligible for a The upper court of Santa Barbara County The Veterans’ diversion program.

David Baskett, 81, pleaded guilty for the unique accusation arising from the collision that killed Tiffany Ann Peterson, 39, from Orcutt in the after -the day of May 2, 2024.

Peterson was a passenger in a small truck driven by her father on Skyway Drive, when she hit Tulele Telehandler, or the forklift telescope, led by Baskett, who was stopped on Hangar Street, next to Santa Maria Public Airport.

Baskett’s lawyer sought to be transferred to what is known as the Veterans Treatment Court.

Earlier this month, a judge ordered an assessment to determine Baskett’s adequacy for the military diversion program.

During a hearing last week, officials established that Baskett was not “eligible statutory for military diversion.”

This means that the case will be sent back to the court of offenses with a preparation and settlement conference for March 11.

Baskett served in the district council of the public airport in Santa Maria when the fatal accident took place, but lost its re-election offer on November 5th.

He continues to serve on The district of the common school school Santa Maria Maria The Education Council.
