Dad stabbed mother on the way to work in front of the son of Edinburgh

A teenager hastened to help his mother after his father subjected her to a hazarding knife attack, who was captured on a mobile phone by a spectator.

Leonard Baltac, 53, attacked the woman from Edinburgh, on August 14, 2021.

The High Court of Edinburgh heard how Baltac blocked the victim’s path while she was about to work before leaving the car and approaching her.

Prosecutor Brian Gill Kc told the court: “He held a knife. He crushed the front passenger’s window of the applicant’s car with the knife handle before trying to open the door, which was locked.

“Then he walked to the driver’s side and crushed the window before reaching and opening the door.

“After that, he cut the applicant’s seat belt with the knife before pulling it on the ground.

“While he was doing this, he repeatedly hit him on his face and his head with the knife. While on Earth, the applicant raised his feet to defend himself.

“Baltac hit it on the feet and hand with the knife and then hit it repeatedly and hit it on the head and body.

“Several neighbors of the applicant were awakened by the noise of the ongoing incident. Part of the attack and his consequences were filmed by a neighbor on a mobile phone.

“The applicant’s son heard his mother scream. He ran out and saw that his mother was attacked by his father.

“He tried to remove the accused of the applicant, and eventually he managed to pull his mother.”

Then he called 999 and said: “Dad just stabbed my mother.”

Baltac pleaded guilty for the accusation of aggression of the woman for her severe injury, permanent deficiency, permanent disfigurement and danger of her life.

Mr. Gill added: “After his son called 999, Baltac went to the opposite side of the road.

“He stayed there waiting for the police to arrive without trying to run away from the scene.

“Many members of the public were on the street when the officers arrived helping the plaintiff who was seriously injured and covered by blood.

“They emphasized the accused to the officers. As they approached, he reached for his stomach and put his hands behind him, saying, “I did it. I’m free. ‘”

The court heard that the victim was in a hurry at the royal infirmary in Edinburgh, where he remained as an internal for the next month.

The doctors there discovered that he had many wounds, such as “full thickness” of 14 centimeters, cut from the right ear, a seven -centimeter lace to the left ankle and “tendon ruptures”.

Mr. Gill added: “It was admitted to the main section of traumas. She remained internal at the royal infirmary in Edinburgh until September 16.

“After being discharged, she was admitted to Astley Ainslie Hospital as an ambulatory for rehabilitation.”

Mr. Gill said that the wounds suffered by the applicant will be throughout his life.

He added: “The advertisement was left with significant permanent scars on her face, as well as scars at the site of the other wounds.

“The deterioration of the facial nerve has led to paralysis on the right side of the forehead and to a visual imbalance in front of it.

“It will not fully regain the feeling or use of facial muscles. There is a continuous loss of sensation and movement in hand to a small extent. “

The court heard that Baltac, who observed procedures with the help of an interpreter, had a previous sentence from January 2023 for careless leadership.

Defense lawyer Lili Prais KC told the court that he will reserve his attenuation for a conviction, which will take place at the end of this year.

Lady Ross continued to retain the Baltac.

She said: “This is a very serious crime and I will book other observations about it until a subsequent hearing.

“You will continue to be withdrawn.”

Baltac will be sentenced to the High Court of Edinburgh in April 2025.
