The Sudan military plane crashes into omdman killing more than 40

At least 46 people were killed and another 10 injured after a Sudanese military plane crashed into a residential neighborhood of OmduMman, the city of the capital Khartoum, says the state media.

Antonov aircraft, Antonov, built by the Russian, declined after taking off from the Wadi Seidna Army base on Tuesday night.

The cause of the accident, which killed military and civilian officers, is not clear – but the military sources said that it was likely to have been caused by a technical failure.

The accident came one day after the paramilitary forces of rapid support (RSF) – which is in war with the army – said that it had descended a jet in the southern Darfur.

The conflict devastated large parts of Sudan – including Khartoum and OmduMman – with thousands of killed people and about 12 million displaced.

The Ministry of Health said that the emergency teams have rushed injured civilians, including children, at a nearby hospital, following the plane accident on Tuesday.

A commander of the upper army in Khartoum was among the killed, said Reuters news agency quoted unnamed military sources.

Witnesses said there was a strong explosion and several houses were damaged when the plane went down, reports the AFP news agency.

The accident also caused electricity interruptions in nearby neighborhoods, he added.

The Sudan was in a civil war that began in April 2023 after the army and RSF was involved in a vicious struggle with the power, with tens of thousands of people killed and millions of people.

The war divided the country, the army controlling the north and east, while the RSF holds most of the Darfur western region and parts of the south.

In recent weeks, the army has taken parts of Khartoum and the surrounding areas of the RSF.
