5 teenagers cloudy for burglary after shelby-to-ashland pursuit

Shelby – the five young people ran, but they couldn’t hide.

All five have been arrested for burglary and may face other accusations, after the police followed suspects in a Black Audi SUV through Richland County and Ashland County, with speeds that have passed 100 miles per hour.

Shelby police responded to a call about a home -free burglary on Broadway Street on Wednesday at 16:21, said the Lance Combs chief.

“It was reported that three men who wore masks entered a residence through a window and returned to a vehicle shortly later, transport more items,” he said in a press release on Thursday morning.

The Ashland County Sheriff’s office, Ashland Police Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol joined everyone, which began after officer Cody Baker tried to pull the vehicle near the Plymouth-Springmill Road and Ohio 96.

“The vehicle initially stopped, but while in the process of ordering the occupants of the vehicle, the driver ran at a high speed, and the Baker officer initiated a pursuit,” the Combs statement said.

Combs said that his department has notified other law enforcement agencies that a pursuit began.

The pursuit involved additional traffic accidents and a firearm was thrown from the vehicle, but later it was recovered, according to Combs.

“Techniques to cease the pursuit were used, which eventually led to the vehicle that left the road,” the statement said. “At stop, several occupants fled the vehicle, but all the suspects were detained.”

The pursuit ended with block 300 in Sandusky Street in Ashland, according to Ashland police chief David Lay.

Combs could not offer accurate ages for the five young people arrested, but they said they were older teenagers.

“There were no five, but they were not adults,” he said.

All five were accused of aggravated burglary and were taken to the minor detention center in Richland County. Combs confirmed that all five have been detention starting Thursday morning.

Combs said the police are still looking for a reason for burglary.

He said that all five suspects are waiting for appearances in court. The vehicle was confiscated and towed by the Ashland Police Department “Waiting for a search warrant to recover the burglary objects.”
