Walter Tamamasui convicted for the sexual exploitation of women 78yo Christchurch with dementia

Today, her daughter told Tamamsui -who described her as a “man who is afraid of God” -exactly the way her actions had an impact on her mother and the evil she caused.

“You took advantage of a vulnerable person, our mother, who could not defend it. The mother did not ask or deserve to be done this, ”she said in a statement of victim read by the criminal prosecution.

The daughter said she was exhausted for the family, while her mother fought with dementia. She had to move from her house, and the family life was disrupted, because she couldn’t return a week after the incident.

Expensive security systems had to be installed at the property, and the victim felt fear when returning home and that he had to go for numerous invasive std checks in the coming months.

63 -year -old Tamamasui appeared for conviction in The Christchurch District Court This morning, under the charge of sexual exploitation of a person with significant deficiencies.

The prosecutor of the crown, Deirdre Elsmore, suggested a five -year starting point, saying that it is an opportunistic offense and a violation of the confidence in which the victim accepted the help of a stranger when he entered her house.

The victim's daughter said that the offender disturbed her family life and left her mother of fear.
The victim’s daughter said that the offender disturbed her family life and left her mother of fear.

Elsmore said that the pre-sent report took place, because there was no authentic remorse and that there was a risk to the community.

Defense lawyer, Phillip Allan, said a lot of similar comparable cases were more sinister, involving the victim’s care, premeditation and outdated elements.

None of these features were present in the offense and presented a three -year starting point.

The defendant did not have previous convictions for sexual offenses and there was a plea of early guilt.

He said that there will be an effect on the big family of Tamamasui – his wife was bad and was hospitalized in recent months – and has submitted an end point of two years in prison.

“Simple predator”

Judge Gerard Lynch said the incident had happened on February 19, 2024 and, while her clothes were removed, she was confused about what was expected of her.

The judge said that the events were exhausted emotionally for the victim, the life of the victim’s daughter went on, because she had to help her mother.

Tamamasui had four previous convictions for violence. In 2018, he received a punishment of detention at home for violence.

He denied that he sexually assaulted the victim and claimed that he had instigated sexual activity and did not want to do so.

He also described himself as a “man who is afraid of God”, but the judge described the offense as a “simple predator”.

Judge Lynch said Tamamasui had exploited an elderly woman, was a deep evil of the victim, and there was great stress for the victim and her family.

The only deduction was for the guilty plea and, while Tamamasi had initially accused of rape, this accusation was changed, which reduced the maximum punishment for the crime, said Judge Lynch.

He sentenced Tamamasui to three years in prison.
