Joy Reid says black women live at a time of theft after MSNBC dismissal

Joy Reid He told the crowd of 2025 Essence Women in Hollywood Awards on Thursday that black women “live in a moment of theft.”

Reid’s speaking appearance at lunch came three days after Sudden restructuring of MSNBC resulted in The cessation of her show, Reidout. Talking about black women, she told the crowd Thursday that “our history risks being stolen.”

“Our opportunity to participate in this democracy is threatened,” she continued. “We lose the service, potential, of the federal workers who are disproportionate to us in the service we give disproportionately.”

For a lot of applauding, Reid also mentioned “those of us who are in the United States (which) are told that our history cannot be learned in military academies, that our photos cannot be displayed on their sites, because it is, as if diversity, equity and inclusion is not a great thing.”

Reid continued to talk about the power of diversity and inclusion efforts, saying that the policies Dei – which the Trump administration has repeatedly attacked by several executive orders – “is a gift for corporations and for the entities we serve.”

She added: “This country becomes more and more diverse, whether they like it or not, and no, if you want to sell dolls, you will need a black siren, because all black and brown girls want to be seen in those characters.”

For cheers again, she continued: “Equity is important because we (black women) come to know that we have to be better, more educated, stronger, more prepared than anyone else when we enter a room. And so we are. And so in each of the spaces we exist, we tend to be the best. And this equity is not only an equity to us, but the equity for these companies and organizations that we serve. It improves its organizations, and the inclusion is only reality. You can do nothing to reverse the wave that makes it a more diverse country. ”

Reid continued to say that the only way to prevent diversification of America is to try to “change democracy” and that black Americans were at the center of resistance movements to prevent these threats. “Afro -Americans, who fought through losses and lack and insights, and Jim Crow … We believe more than anyone in this country in rights, freedoms and constitution that did not include us.”

The 2025 Essence Awards in Hollywood honored Cynthia Erivo, Teyana Taylor, Marla Gibbs and Ramla Mohamed. They took place on Thursday at the Fairmont Century Plaza hotel.
