A global campaign has led to at least 25 arrests on the sex content for children generated by artificial intelligence and distributed online, Europol said on Friday.

“The Cumberland operation was one of the first cases that involved sexual abuse materials on the children generated by AI, which has been exceptionally provocative for investigators due to the lack of national legislation approaching these offenses,” said the European Police Agency in a statement.

Most of the arrests were made on Wednesday during the world operation led by the Danish police and which also involved the EU law enforcement, as well as Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand.

The arrest followed in November last year of the main suspect in this case, a Danish citizen who drove an online platform where he distributed the material you produced.

After an “online payment online, users from all over the world could get a password to access the platform and follow the abused children,” said Europol.

The online sexual exploitation of children remains one of the most threatening manifestations of computer crime in the European Union, the agency warned.

It “continues to be one of the main priorities for the law enforcement agencies, which deals with an increasing volume of illegal content,” he said, adding that several arrests have been expected as the investigation continued.
