The municipality of Nelson Mandela Bay has expressed a deep concern for the low compliance rate of the SPAZA store recordings, despite the extended awareness campaigns and an extended national term.

The subway said that, while today is the last day for registration, he mentioned that out of 1,637 space stores say it operates in the subway, 1 136 applications were received.

However, the member of the Primary Public Health Committee, Thshonono Buyeye, says about this number, 843 were incomplete, making it invalid.

Buyeye said that only 293 requests, or 18%of the owners of space stores have submitted complete and compliant applications.

“We are extremely disappointed with the weak answer. Since the announcement of the president and the extension of the December term, we have all left to raise awareness, inspect the shops and guide the owners on compliance.

“Now that the deadline has passed, we have no choice but to apply the law,” he said.

He mentioned that out of the 1,637 spa stores in the Gulf of Nelson Mandela, about 90% are owned by foreign relevant.

Buyeye added that the local authority will intensify the application efforts, urging those who have been refused to rectify their requests and reapply.

“Our raids will continue. The law is now clear and we will act decisively to restore the order in this critical sector.

“We ask the public to support these efforts as we work to ensure a safe business environment,” added Buyeye.
