The judge gives connection for the man accused of sexually assaulting the elderly woman

Dothan, Ala. (WTVY) – a judge gave obligation for a man accused of sexually assaulted an elderly woman.

Named judge Henry County, Spencer Danzey, set a connection for James Robert Suggs at $ 500,000. SUGGS is accused of two charges of rape 1, a class A.

SUGGS is accused of raping a 95 -year -old woman who is dementia in November.

During a preliminary hearing on Friday, CPL. Brandon Barnes, who investigated the case, confessed that he had arrived at the victim’s house, after a friend contacted the police when the victim said she could be pregnant.

Cpl. Barnes said the samples were collected on the spot, and the victim was sent to the hospital for evaluation. The results of a DNA sample collected during that evaluation found a genetic material both from the victim and from a man. The sample “offered very strong support” that the DNA was Suggs.

During an interrogation, Barnes said that Suggs told him that he was the victim’s neighbor for a few years and wished to come.

Suggs took the victim fishing and drove her back to her cotton house on the golf wagon. He told investigators he had drank. Barnes confessed that the victim was assaulted on the golf wagon and that Suggs had to remove his diaper during the attack.

According to the testimony, Suggs entered the victim’s house and the bedroom where he assaulted it again.

Christopher Sledge’s defense lawyer called the victim at the stand. He is 96 years old, but told the court he was 98 years old. When she was asked about her health, she said she was doing “amazing well” and lives alone. It was diagnosed with dementia in 2016 and takes medicines. Sledge asked him who is her doctor and couldn’t remember.

Sledge asked her about the day of the alleged attack. The victim said Suggs, which she did not know at the time, fired her alley. She found out she was her owner’s brother. “Because I trusted her and I liked it … I went with him.”

She confessed that he showed him how to fish. “He became a little harsh with me in the woods,” she said. The victim claimed that she led her back to her house and she let him go. “I felt that it is better to go because of the power and mine. I knew I was safer this way, ”she said.

Judge Danzey has found enough evidence to go further with the case. Now it will be sent to a great jury.
