12 -year -olds, Fatal SUV hit in Crosswalk, near Kearns Junior High

A 12-year-old student from Kearns Junior High was fatally hit by an SUV in a sidewalk while heading for school.

The officials of the granite school district identified the boy as Adam mahamat.

Officials with the Unified Police Department said they received several calls about a student who was hit by a Chevy Tahoe to East at 7:45 am on February 27. The accident happened while the student crossed north to 4140 West and Sam’s Boulevard in Kearns.

Mahamat was listed in critical condition when officers and firefighters arrived. The life rescue measures were performed by people on the spot, while the doctors were on the route.

He was then transported to a local hospital, where the police said he died later.

Witnesses remained on the spot to help the investigation, and the SUV driver cooperated with the police.

“This school is hearty,” the granite school district officials said in a statement. “Kearns Jr High is an incredibly close knitting community, and this accident had large effects.”

They advised students to pay attention when crossing the street and said that drivers should be “more vigilant when driving in or around school areas, especially before and after school.”

The mother of a student who became friends with mahamat said: “I was worried because many children go to the library and there is an exodus of children who are going there. Maybe it would be appropriate to have a passing guard just to make sure that the children are safe and do not take risks that they should not take. “
