Ice agents arrest roofs in the Lakeside’s Lakeside neighborhood – Duluth News Tribune

Duluth – Federal Immigration officials arrested members of a roof crew working in the Lakeside neighborhood in the city this week. Five people were apparently detained by US immigration and customs agencies, lawyer Ryan Perez told The News Tribune, citing a family roof member.

Perez organizes director for communities that organize the Latin power and action, which is part of the recently formed immigrants’ defense, which has launched in the middle of President Donald Trump’s oath to perform mass deportations.

It was not immediately clear why the roofs were targeted by the arrest, where they are or the status of their cases.

“Due to our operational rhythm and the increased interest for our agency, we are not able to research and respond to the specific of daily routine operations for ICE,” wrote the regional spokesman Aleeta Smock, in response to a stand.

The Duluth Police Department said he was not informed about the application actions and did not take part in it.

“The DPD’s public safety response remains the same,” Mike Ceynowa said in a statement. “Our main priority has been and will always be the safety and security of our community. We were not involved in any incidents of immigration and we were not informed about the actions that take place in our community. “

Mayor Roger Reinert also stressed that the city is not responsible for immigration issues.

“We have several levels of governance in the United States and each one is charged with different responsibilities,” he said. “At the local level, the staff of our city continues to be focused on the basic services of the city: streets, utilities and public safety. The local administration is not responsible for applying immigration. “

Trump has promised to carry out the highest mass deportation in US history during the second term – sometimes suggesting that he wants to deport each person in the country. This figure was estimated at 11 million by the US Internal Security Department in 2022.

The Secretary of DHS, Kristi Noem, said on Wednesday that the Agency has made over 20,000 arrests in Trump’s first month – an increase of 627% compared to last year’s pace. The administration also reversed policies that forbade attacks in sensitive locations, such as schools, hospitals and places of worship.

But the data showed that

About 41% of new prisoners have no criminal record,

in contradiction with the assertion of the administration that they are targeting the violent criminals. And

37.660 people deported in Trump’s first month is much smaller

than the monthly average of last year of 57,000 under President Joe Biden.
