Three dead while Cyclone guarantees the shipwrecks in France at Reunion Island | News about the weather

Over 180,000 households are experiencing energy interruptions, because cyclone is ravaging on the island of the Indian Ocean, the authorities report.

At least three people were killed while Cyclone Garace hit the French territory over the seas from the island to Reunion, bringing wind speeds up to 155 m/h (96 km/h), the French police said.

The cyclone hit Friday, landing in the north of the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, blowing roofs and cutting power and access to drinking water for many residents.

It came out of the south -the island vest a few hours later, said the weather agency Teo France.

Meteo France said that the worst of the storm has passed.

The storm alert was relegated from the highest level, purple, red, at the beginning of Friday, which allowed the rescue workers to leave their shelters and start evaluating the damage and helping the affected.

A mandatory order remained in place for residents to remain inside. After lowering the wind speed, heavy rains were considered a higher risk.

The weather conditions will improve on Saturday.

“Cyclone is still a threat to the island, I ask everyone to follow the instructions of the local authorities,” French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou said on Friday.

“Our thoughts are with them and their loved ones who have been hit hard.”

The prefecture said earlier that 180,000 households – about 42 percent of electric utility customers – lost power and almost 10 percent did not have access to drinking water.

The nearby tourist island Mauritius closed the main airport on Wednesday, while at Reunion he closed the flights on Thursday. His International Airport was to be reopened on Saturday late.

“The first time was afraid”

The inhabitants said the force of the cyclone is frightening.

“It is the first time I saw such a powerful cyclone and also the first time I was afraid,” said Vincent Clain, 45, who lives in Sainte-Marie on the North Coast, for the AFP News Agency.

He said the storm uprooted the trees into his garden. “I thought they would crash in the house,” he said.

Clain, his wife, son and dog hid in their kitchen, “the safest area of the house.”

Aline Etheve, resident in Sainte-Suzanne on the coast, said she was worried that the roof of her house will collapse after the storm destroyed the garden fence.

“I have to admit that I am a little scared,” she told AFP, adding that the power and Wi-Fi access have disappeared.
